acrylic on poster board, 2022
Throughout my healing process, I struggled with blaming myself, and when I finally accepted it had nothing to do with me, my life changed. When I accepted the help and support of the people around me, my story changed.
I started this piece on the first anniversary of one of my assaults. My best friend and I got massive poster boards to do art on. I started by writing letters to each of my rapists, read them to my friend, and then painted the whole thing black. I did this to let go of some of the resentments and anger I had and start fresh. The story of Medusa always meant a lot to me, especially after the things I experienced.
I encourage others to put their emotions, traumas, resentments, and experiences into art. It is one of the best ways I’ve expressed and shared my experience. This is one of my favorite pieces of mine because there is so much meaning behind it, which you can see, and a lot you can’t see.
